On the Brink of Elmination

Defending Stanley Cup Winners facing elimination in the first round. The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins head into game 7 on Wednesday night in   Boston. However the Bruins have been in situations like this before. Last year Boston played three game seven games, which included the big one in the end against the Canucks. However, the Bruins have to rattle young Braden Holtby. He has been outstanding in the series giving Caps goalies Michael Neuvirth and Tomas Vokoun a run for their money next season. He’s stopped 202 shots throughout the duration of the series compared to Fleury’s 131 saves. Not bad for a rookie eh. On the other end we have veteran Timmy Thomas who’s been quite spectacular as well.  Thomas’s and Holtby’s GAA are identical at 2.18, which is quite impressive given both team’s explosive offences. The series outcome will depend on the play of the goalies in game 7. It’s do or die for both teams. And by the way Ovechkin’s got to play clutch to spark the Caps offence if the want to pull of a win and upset the Stanley Cup Champs!

What’s Wrong Marc Andre?

These playoffs have been a shocker to many. Especially Penguins fans. One thing went wrong in my opinion. Three Words. MARC ANDRE FLEURY. Boy Fleury struggled. He looked like a Pewee player in a men’s league out there. He had a very surprising GAA of 4.63. Which is un-Fleury like. And boy did he let the team down. Fleury was flopping all over the place. Instead of reacting to a shot, he would hope the puck would hit him. To go with the bad GAA, his Save % was pretty horrendous at .834. In the end I have to say the Penguins simply didn’t deserve the round win. If they couldn’t allow yes than four goals a game. If they were to move onto the next round. Man they would of got their butt kicked. End of the line, Pens are out. FLEURY SUCKED!

Braden Who?

Going into the Stanley Cup playoffs Capitals fan expected either Thomas Vokoun or Michael Neuvirth starting in net. However they are both out with injuries. Going into the series with 22 year old Braden Holtby was the decision Dale Hunter made. His lack of experience drew some to conclusion of the series being a quicky. But the youngster answered his critics. In a game on O.T loss Holtby played a stellar game only letting a single goal. He was peppered with 29 shots in the tough loss. However game two had a different outcome. Another terrific game by Holtby, with the Caps winning it 2-1 in double O.T, where he made a whopping 43 saves. Not bad for a rookie.  Things look good for the Caps future in Braden Holtby. He has certainly proved himself. Look out Bruins!

Déjà vu in Toronto, Another Blown Save

Sergio Santos standing with catcher J.P Arencibia

Last night the Toronto Blue Jays took on the Boston Red Sox in their home opener. However, Jays fans were yet disappointed by another late inning crumble. Jays closer Sergio Santos mad a made first impression last night in front of the home crowd blowing yet another save. Going into the ninth Santos just had to get three simple fans to send Jay’s fans home happy. Pitching 2/3rds of an inning Santos let up 3 runs, making the game 4-2 in Boston’s favor. Santos failed to find the strike zone and walked three batters. There are many uncertainties going forward in the season in the bullpen. It’s starting to seem a lot like last season with John Rauch out there, this time it’s Sergio Santos. If the Jays want to be contenders they need to find a closer who can get the job down, or else they will season crumble just like last night’s 9th inning.

TPS Response 6 Chest Protector Review

My Goalie Chest and Arm: TPS Response 6

Chest and Arm: TPS Response 6 Jr. XL

I bought these pads in the summer of 201o from The Goalie Crease. To start off the chest protector was priced at $59.99, which was a steal in my mind. It offers great protection and it is very durable.

Comfort:

To start of I love the comfort the R6 has to offer. I can freely move my arms around and it is not too bulky. Due to its less bulkiness, it doesn’t restrict any of movement in the crease. The arms are the right length and don’t interfere with my glove and blocker. To conclude great comfort after adjusting a few straps. Overall the R6 deserves a 4/5 for comfort.

Durability:

The R6 has lasted me two ball hockey seasons, one year of goalie school, and ¾ of a season. It is still going strong with no sign of wear at all. This has really pleased me. I thought at the price of 60 bucks it would barely last me two seasons. However it is still going strong and will be used in my upcoming seasons. The chest and arm gets a perfect rating of 5/5.

Fit:

The chest protector fit very well on me. I’m 5’4 these pads fit me perfectly. The pants come with a lacing system and a belt. Since I’m a skinny guy, I had to tamper with the straps at the back to get a tighter fit on my body. After doing so it fit me perfectly and very happy with it. Overall I give the chest protector a 3/5 because I had to do a little tampering with the straps.

Flexibility:

The chest protector came in game ready condition. There was no need to break it in at all. I was really pleased about the mobility the chest protector has because it’s not bulky. I can freely move my arms and have no problem in games with upper body mobility. 5/5 for flexibility.

Protection:

So far I haven’t been injured in chest protector so far, which is really nice. I have no fear wearing the protector and getting hurt while facing a hard slapshot. In the sternum area, TPS uses a “Shock Relief,” which adds better protection in the more vital area of your chest. A rating of 5/5 for the great protection.

Visual:

You can’t say much about the graphics. It is black with orange accents which look pretty cool. The visual doesn’t matter too much because it is worn under and people can’t see it. Rating is N/A.

Weight:

Not heavy at all, really impressed with the weight and it does not effect my performance on the ice. A rating 5/5 for the lightness of the R6.

Overall I was really satisfied with the TPS Response 6 chest and protector. The amazing price, quality and protection won me over. The amount of protection it offers without being too bulky is great. Overall I give the chest and arm a 4.5/5 because of protection and price.

Warrior Swagger Goal Pant Review

My Goalie Pants: Warrior Swagger

Pants:Warrior Swagger Jr. 26-28 Inch

I bought these pads in the summer of 2011 from Pro Hockey Life. To start off these pants were priced at $99.99. They offer great protection and are very durable.

Comfort:

These pants are very comfortable and have a great fit. I like how the pants are very lose fitting and are not bulky at all. This gives me a lot of mobility in the crease and I have no problems with them interfering with my pads. Warrior also uses pretty comfortable materials throughout. They added protection on the bottom portion of the pants which is a very soft. On the backside of the pant they cut the bottom like a “C” shape, this gives you added comfort and also makes it easier to move. For comfort I give the pant a 4/5.

Durability:

These pads are very durable. I’ve had them for3/4 of a seasons and besides the puck marks there as good as new. There is no wearing whatsoever on the pants. This really surprised me. They look practically brand new. A very durable pant, so I give them a 5/5.

Fit:

These pads fit very well on me. I’m 5’4 and have a 27” waist and these pads fit me perfectly. The pants come with a lacing system and a belt. I was not disappointed with the fit on these pads at all. As I mentioned they are pretty loose fitting so I added some suspenders to help keep them up. I give the fit a 4/5

Flexibility:

These pants took a few games to get used to and break in. After that they are very flexible. They do not restrict any of my mobility in my crease which I really like about these pants. I have to give them a flexibility rating a 4/5.

Protection:

So far I haven’t been injured in these pads (knock on wood). I have no fear wearing these pants and getting hurt while facing a hard slapshot. These pants have great protection in the thigh areas which really protects you. They also have a floating liner inside the pant which adds more protection. Its great protection during games earns a 5/5 protection rating.

Visual:

You can’t say much about the graphics. They are standard black pants, nothing to fancy. Visual is N/A

Weight:

Overall I don’t think that the pant is too heavy on the waist. They haven’t decreased my speed or balance on the ice. These pads are easy to move around in the butterfly. As I mentioned they are not bulky which reduces the weight. I give the weight a 4/5.

Overall I think these pants are great for intermediate level goalies and I would recommend them to anyone who likes less bulky pants. Overall great pant, reasonable price and it’s very durable. The pants are 4/5 in my opinion.

Dekree DC:300 Review

Hey guys it MistryHockey here and today were going to take a in depth look at the new stick I received from Dekree. Right here I have the Dekree DC:300. I got the M3 curve which is similar to the Modano curve and it’s 80 flex. To start of it really improved my slapshot. My shots seemed to be harder and more accurate with this twig. Also right off the bat I noticed that the graphics were pretty nice looking. It has a nice clean look with the orange and black colours which look great! To add it is also a really light stick.

Now let’s talk about the construction of this amazing stick!

It’s 100% composed of fibre and Kevlar which keeps the stick nice and light.

They also place pieces of carbon fibre in the more high impact places for added durability. And in the bottom portion of the shaft which tends to face a lot of slashes will have that added durability because they put Kevlar reinforced bridge there. As you can see on the stick there are no chips whatsoever. I have used it many times and still have no ships on it.

Also the stick features a decent taper on the shaft. The low kick point will help generate fast loading and will help you with those quicker released shots.

And finally they use a full 12k carbon fibre weave for strength and tensional stiffness. This is sort of like what Easton does in their S19, so basically there’s “Torx” in the DC:300. What this does is it keeps the blade closed.

Alright now let’s go over the specs of the stick

The shaft is very ergonomic; they use double concave construction like what Bauer uses. It feels really comfy in the hands.

And finally Dekree is using what they call their dual grip technology. It is a checkerboard pattern which is raised to give you some texture which allows to have better control of the stick.

So that was my review of the Dekree DC:300, hope you give these guys a chance. There a great up and coming company which makes fantastic. So go out and order the DC:300 today.
